Matt Holmes
Senior Vice President, Operations and Investments
Matt Holmes is Senior Vice President, Operations and Investments for Caro Investors. He leads all operations, including accounting, reporting, valuation, and compliance functions. Matt serves as a member of the Investment Committee, with a focus on risk and portfolio / cash management; he will augment investment sourcing, particularly with west coast relationships. Lastly, Matt serves as Caro’s Chief Compliance Officer.
Over two decades, Matt Holmes has been involved in transactions totaling $4.7B, asset managed $3.2B, and portfolio managed $13.2B. Most recently he served as co-founder and managing partner of Rampart Ridge, an investment and advisory firm that was active across an array of differentiated investment theses and completed strategy consulting engagements for PropTech and venture capital firms. Previously, Matt served as VP of Investments and ‘right hand’ to the CIO of Kilroy Realty (NYSE: KRC), wherein he covered the Bay Area and Seattle markets for office & mixed-use (existing & development). Under the CIO, Matt oversaw portfolio management across KRC’s $10B west coast portfolio. Prior to his tenure at KRC, Matt served as Director of Investments and a direct report to the CIO of Carmel Partners (“CP”). Matt was integral to the acquisition of four CMBS B-pieces ($450M face value) and oversaw $1.5B in multi-housing transactions. He contributed significantly to the design and implementation of CP’s portfolio management processes. Prior to his tenure at Carmel Partners, Matt served as a Senior Associate on CBRE’s Northern CA institutional multi-housing team led by Bill Huberty. Matt began his career solving optimization problems for NASA as a Mathematical Analyst at Micro Analysis & Design.
Matt graduated from St. Olaf College Cum Laude with Distinction in Mathematics (Concentration in Statistics). He holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern University's Kellogg School where he was a Frechette Scholar and spent a term studying Macroeconomics at INSEAD.
